What inspires you about your research?
As a Registered Nurse who has done shift work and bedside nursing, I have felt the impact that night shift and a rotating shift schedule has had on my overall well-being. My research focuses on measuring the impact of shift work in nurses as they transition from nursing school into their long-term careers. This work will eventually be used as data to create better sleep supports for nurses in order for them to have long-lasting, fulfilling careers!
Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree?
I have always loved research. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I worked as a research assistant for Dr. Elizabeth Keys, who is now my MSN research supervisor. I chose a thesis-based master’s degree because it will allow me to focus and research a topic of my choice – which is sleep!
Why did you choose to come to UBC Okanagan?
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at UBCO and I was amazed at how supportive the faculty was and how many opportunities I was presented with in order to accelerate my academic successes. I found everyone, including staff and my student peers, facilitated a really positive learning environment.
Where do you hope your degree and research will take you next?
Hopefully to a PhD, leading research studies, and supervising future MSN students!
Please share a little bit about yourself.
I really like to spend time with family and spend time being active! I am currently obsessed with running by the seawall near my house in Vancouver.
