Registration

Any student who is considering registering, or requires specific information on visiting students should read the following information closely.

Registering as a UBC graduate student

Graduate students should consult with their supervisor before registering in courses.  Students should register in courses through the Student Service Centre.

Need to drop a course after the deadline?  Use the Late Withdrawal Request Form. Please note that late withdrawal requests are not normally approved unless you meet the requirements for an Academic Concession.

Go Global Student Exchange Program

UBC’s Okanagan campus has a large international student exchange program, known as “Go Global”. Graduate students can apply to attend our Go Global exchange partner universities. Visit the Go Global website for more information.

Registering as a UBC undergraduate student, visiting student or unclassified student

Students enroled in graduate programs at other Canadian universities may enrol at UBC as a visiting student through the Western Deans’ Agreement, the Graduate Exchange Agreement or as a regular visiting student.

Western Deans’ Agreement

Students at participating universities can attend other institutions as visiting students without having to pay the host university’s tuition fees.  Students may be required to pay student, activity, application, or other ancillary fees to the host institution, according to general policies in effect at the host institution.

The authorization form and more information can be found on the Western Canadian Deans of Graduate Studies’ website.

Graduate Exchange Agreement

This agreement allows graduate students in good academic standing at UBC, McGill University, University of Toronto and University of Montréal to take courses at each other’s university without having to pay extra tuition fees to the host institution.

Please visit the Graduate Exchange Agreement Authorization and Course Registration page of our Vancouver campus’ website to access the Graduate Exchange Authorization forms.

The terms of the agreement for the Graduate Exchange Agreement are the same as those set out for the Western Deans’ Agreement.

Regular Visiting Students

Students with good academic standing at Canadian universities not participating in other exchange agreements may enrol at UBC as regular visiting students.  Students may hold visiting status at UBC for a maximum of 12 months.

Visiting graduate students who wish to take credit courses must register for those courses and will be assessed tuition fees at the prevailing graduate per credit rate, plus authorized student fees.

More information, including how to apply, can be found in the Graduate Policy and Procedure Manual.

Students registered in graduate degree programs at international universities may apply to come to UBC through one of these mechanisms:
