The purpose of the Graduate Community Facilitator role is to enhance the student experience for all current graduate students. Our Graduate Community Facilitators work to support students by:
- welcoming new students;
- connecting grad students with their peers;
- planning fun events and activities;
- increasing student engagement opportunities;
- creating a graduate community.

Meet Your Community Facilitators

Sahar Sowdagar
Sahar Sowdagar is currently completing her Master of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering. She came to UBCO from Dubai and her hobbies include swimming, reading, and the beach. As a Graduate Community Facilitator, she focuses on planning fun events for grad students. Sahar is social and outgoing, always eager to connect with others and make new friends. She believes that grad school should be enjoyable, and she’s dedicated to creating a welcoming community where everyone can thrive. Whether it’s organizing hangouts or collaborating on projects, she brings a positive and friendly energy to the table. She invites all graduate students to connect with her on anything and everything, whether it is academia or fun related.

Lanxin Li
Lanxin Li (any pronouns) is a master’s student in Global Studies within the Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies program. Before coming to UBCO, Lanxin spent their undergraduate years studying, dancing, and exploring in Shanghai, New York, and Berlin.
Outside of academia, Lanxin is an active queer activist and regularly organizes events to support local queer communities in their hometown, Xiamen, China. With a strong passion for building connections and sharing resources, Lanxin enjoys bringing people together through thoughtful and engaging events.
At UBCO, Lanxin is excited to contribute to the creation of a vibrant graduate student community where students can form meaningful connections, feel a sense of belonging, and thrive in a safe and inclusive environment.
