QUICK FACTS
UBC Okanagan Graduate Research Scholarships are administered by the College of Graduate Studies through funding made available from the University Budget. UBC Okanagan Graduate Research Scholarships are awarded to graduate students who are registered in a full-time research-based program at UBC Okanagan.
Value: award value is determined by the graduate program.
Eligibility
- Incoming and continuing, full-time graduate students in a research-based program
Academic Standing
- Each year, students’ progress is evaluated as either satisfactory, requiring improvement, or unsatisfactory through an Annual Progress Report. Students with unsatisfactory progress become ineligible for award funding. Students will regain eligibility when improvement required or satisfactory status is reported in the required six month interim progress report or a subsequent annual progress report
Number of Months of Study
- Master’s students may not receive funding once they are beyond 24 months of study in the program for which they are requesting funding
- PhD students may not receive funding once they are beyond 60 months of study in the program for which they are requesting funding

- Graduate programs make recommendations to the College of Graduate Studies
Application Procedures
- Incoming students:
- All applicants that have submitted a complete admission application by the appropriate deadline are automatically considered for the scholarship. No additional application or documents are required or permitted.
- Students are not able to update or make changes to their admission application for the purpose of this scholarship
- Continuing students:
- Annual progress reports must be completed and signed by both the student and supervisor/advisor, reviewed by the program coordinator, and submitted to the College of Graduate Studies by June 1, 2022 to qualify for the scholarship. Students are automatically considered by their program for this award based on their progress in their degree.
- PLEASE NOTE: This scholarship cannot be applied to, and no additional documents will be considered. Students are selected by their program for these awards based exclusively on their application for admission, or their ongoing progress in their degree. There is no application for this scholarship.
Nomination Procedures
- Funding is allocated to graduate programs annually
- Each graduate program notifies the College of Graduate Studies of the amount from its allocated funds it intends to assign to each eligible student
- The College of Graduate Studies confirms which nominees meet eligibility requirements
- Graduate programs may notify the College of Graduate Studies on an on-going basis to increase initial scholarship assignments
- Only successful students are notified

Conditions for Award Holders
Academic Standing

Registration
- In order to remain eligible for this scholarship, students must remain registered as a full-time student for each term of the scholarship payment. Students must register in their thesis course in each term of their studies to ensure that they maintain full-time status
Leave of Absence
- Students granted a leave of absence retain the full value of any scholarship or other award whose terms and conditions are established by the College of Graduate Studies. An award will be suspended at the onset of the leave, and reinstated at the termination of the leave period
Transfer to Another Area of Study
- If a scholarship holder transfers out of the program that nominated them for the scholarship, the student may retain the full scholarship payment only if both programs are in agreement
Withdrawals
- If a scholarship holder withdraws from the program that nominated them for the scholarship, the funding received during the term for which the withdrawal is processed will be recovered by the College of Graduate Studies and returned to the nominating program for re-allocation
Program Completion
- If a scholarship holder completes the requirements of their program prior to receiving the full scholarship payment, the College of Graduate Studies will communicate with the graduate program coordinator to inquire if any award adjustments are necessary
