Description

In some circumstances, a graduate program may recommend to the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies the admission of a Graduate Student without provision of the required PhD minimum funding package. A rationale explaining the recommendation is required. RATIONALE
Admissions Justification
Provide a clear, detailed justification for admitting the student without funding.*
Evidence that the Student is Self-Funded
Provide an explanation as to how the student will be able to fund themselves for the duration of the degree program. In addition, attach the following two documents: i. a letter signed by the student confirming that they agree to fund themselves for the duration of the program, and ii. attach documentation, such as a letter from the student’s employer, demonstrating that the student has sufficient resources to fund themselves for the duration of the degree program.*

Access to Equipment and Resources
The student’s supervisor must specify what equipment and resources the student will need to carry out the research, and confirm how the student will be able to access such resources (e.g. access to the lab or computational equipment, travel funding for archival research or site visits, etc.). Specify what funding will be provided by the supervisor or program to support this research.*
Program’s Statement on Availability of Funding Opportunities
The Program Coordinator must provide a statement from the program regarding the availability of future funding opportunities for the student (such as Teaching Assistantships, Internal awards, etc.) to deal with changes in circumstances that may cause the student to require funding.*
