Quick Facts

Ken and Jean Finch are pleased to offer one $11,000 award to a PhD student and two $5,000 awards to Masters students enrolled at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus. Preference is given to students whose studies may lead to entrepreneurship, innovation, community involvement or local economic development. The award is made by the College of Graduate Studies.

Annual Value: $11,000 for a PhD student & $5,000 each for two Master’s students

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a graduate degree program at the Okanagan campus

Academic Standing

  • Attainment of first-class standing in the past year of academic study

Number of Months of Study

  • Master’s students must have completed, as of December 31 of the application year, no more than 24 months of study in the program for which they are requesting funding
  • PhD students must have completed, as of December 31 of the application year, no more than 48 months of study in the program for which they are requesting funding

Evaluation Criteria

Application Procedures

  • The following materials must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies by the deadline:
    • The Finch Family Graduate Award Application Form, completed by the student
      • Once the Finch Family Graduate Award application is submitted, the student will receive an email notification that includes the application in its entirety. This must be converted into a PDF (Print – PDF) and emailed to the two referees
    • Two letters of reference submitted via the Finch Reference Form, completed by the referees
      • Students must send to their referees the Finch Reference Form link for completion

Nomination Procedures

  • The Finch Family Graduate Award is administered by the College of Graduate Studies
  • The final awardees will be selected by the College of Graduate Studies Scholarship and Awards committee
  • Applicants will be adjudicated by the College of Graduate Studies Scholarships and Awards Committee
  • Only successful applicants will be notified
