The CAGS-ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award recognizes Canadian doctoral dissertations that make unusually significant and original contributions to their academic field. They were established in 1994 and are presented annually by the Canadian Association for Graduate Studies (CAGS), with sponsorship support provided by ProQuest.

A $2,000 award has been made available to a graduate student enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts program in the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies at The University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus. Preference is given to a student who has demonstrated artistic excellence and academic achievement.

The Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements (CGS-MSFSS) Program supports high-calibre Canadian graduate students in building global linkages and international networks through the pursuit of exceptional research experiences at research institutions abroad.

The objective of the Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral (CGS-D) Program is to promote continued excellence in Canadian research by rewarding and retaining high-calibre doctoral students at Canadian institutions.

The Canada Graduate Scholarships Master’s (CGS-M) Program provides financial support for one year to high-calibre scholars who are engaged in eligible master’s or, in some cases, doctoral programs in Canada. This support allows these scholars to fully concentrate on their studies in their chosen fields.

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a government agency in China which provides scholarships to students for doctoral and postdoctoral studies abroad. UBC has developed an agreement with the CSC and with specific Chinese universities to be a preferred host institution for CSC scholarship holders.

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) Graduate Entrance Awards valued at $15,000 each are available to students entering their first year of graduate studies in a thesis-based Masters or Doctoral program in the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or students in an Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies program with a supervisor who is a member of the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Consistent with the admission period for which a student is applying

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies (IGS) Masters Entrance Awards are valued at $5,000 for each of the two years of the Master’s program. The award is available to students entering their first year of graduate studies in a thesis-based Master’s program in an IGS theme.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is introducing a new Indigenous Graduate Teaching Fellowship, offering annual awards of $10,000 per course (to maximum of $50,000 per annum). The intent is to target Syilx Okanagan Indigenous students to lead developments in the Nsyilxcn language fluency degree and other Okanagan content courses in the Indigenous Studies program.

The Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies (FCCS) Graduate Fellowship is a merit-based award open to incoming and continuing full-time students supervised by FCCS faculty. It is available to both Masters and Doctoral students, domestic or international.

Three Faculty of Science (FoS) Graduate Entrance Awards valued at $15,000 each are available to students entering their first year of graduate studies in a thesis-based Masters or Doctoral program in the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science or an Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies program with a supervisor who is a member of the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science.

Ken and Jean Finch are pleased to offer one $15,000 award to a PhD student and two $5,000 awards to two Master’s students who are engaged in a research-based full-time graduate degree program at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus. Preference is given to students whose studies may lead to entrepreneurship, innovation, community involvement or local economic development.

The Friedman Award for Scholars in Health supports learning and research opportunities for graduate students or medical residents working in the broad area of health, to bring new perspectives to their education and further their career.

One gold medal is awarded to the student who has achieved the most outstanding academic record as a doctoral or master’s student completing a dissertation or thesis. This is an opportunity to honour the best in the graduating class within the College of Graduate Studies

The Graduate Dean’s Thesis Fellowship (GDTF) is a merit-based fellowship that is awarded to full-time, research-based graduate students who are approaching their final term and are focusing on the completion of their thesis/dissertation/research project. This fellowship is intended to provide financial support while students are engaged in the final writing stages of their graduate program. Students may receive a GDTF only once per degree program.

Consistent with the admission period for which a student is applying

The International Four-Year Doctoral Partial Tuition (IDPT) Award is available to international incoming PhD students and PhD transfer students. The Award pays the tuition differential between international and domestic tuition for eligible students. The award provides funding for up to a total of four years (48 months) per awardee.

The National Chapter of Canada IODE initiated War Memorial Doctoral Scholarships in 1918 to commemorate Canadians who sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom. Initially, bursaries were granted to children of men and women who lost their lives or who were permanently disabled while fighting for Canada. Since the first scholarships were awarded in 1921, IODE War Memorial Scholars have made important contributions to Canada and the world in medicine, science, business, politics and academia.

The Killam Scholarship and Prize Programmes were established in memory of Izaak Walton Killam through the Will of his wife, Dorothy J. Killam, and through gifts made during her lifetime.

A $6,500 research award has been made available through an endowment established by the Estate of Lashley and Mary Haggman for a graduate student at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus, conducting research on memory or memory-related issues.

Master of Data Science Domestic and International Scholarships are a $5,000 entrance scholarship offered annually to domestic and international students in the Master of Data Science program at UBC Okanagan. The scholarship recognizes a student who has demonstrated academic and leadership achievements in their undergraduate or graduate program, field or industry.

As part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and research, Rio Tinto offers an $18,000 graduate scholarship for a UBC graduate student in a field of pure or applied science related to Rio Tinto’s activities in mining.

The Schmidt Science Fellows program provides the world’s best emerging scientists with new skills and perspectives to develop novel solutions to society’s challenges, become scientific and societal thought leaders, and accelerate ground-breaking discoveries.  The program is looking for the brightest minds in the natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, and computing who are interested in broadening their horizons.  Fellows receive a stipend of $100,000 USD per year and are supported to pursue a one to two year postdoctoral placement at a world-leading laboratory anywhere in the world in a disciplinary pivot from their PhD.  Fellows also benefit from a Global Meeting Series and personalized mentoring program.

This award, a collaboration between the Science and Engineering Research Board, India (SERB) and UBC, provides up to five scholarships per year to PhD candidates in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The UBC Okanagan Academic Fund supports graduate student scholarship and research initiatives that are central to the development of the student experience. Applications may be made to the Fund by individual graduate students or organized student groups. Examples of activities supported by the Fund include the cost of bringing speakers and lecturers to campus, and organizing and supporting graduate student-led research events.

The UBC Okanagan Clifford Alexander Robson and Else Loella Robson Memorial Scholarship Award is awarded to graduate students who are registered with the Disability Resource Centre with specific accommodation for time to completion at UBC Okanagan.

UBC Okanagan Graduate Research Scholarships are awarded to graduate students who are registered in a full-time research-based program at UBC Okanagan.

The UBC Okanagan Indigenous Graduate Fellowship is a merit-based fellowship that is awarded to Indigenous students entering or continuing in a full-time research-based graduate program. The Fellowship is for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people of Canada, in accordance with section 35(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982. The Fellowship will also consider Indigenous people of a transborder Indigenous nation (American Indian or Alaska Native). The Fellowship provides funding for up to two years for master’s students and up to five years for PhD students.

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program is designed to attract and retain world-class doctoral students by supporting students who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health-related fields. The Vanier CGS is valued at $50,000 per year for up to three years.
